SHU Progress
This initiative provides support for applicants whose personal circumstances might mean that there are barriers to going to university. It provides support in the year of application, including your transition to becoming a student at SHU. Find out more about SHU Progress.

Local Colleges
Many local Further Education (FE) colleges offer university-level courses through their own ‘University Centre’ or Higher Education programmes. These courses often have more flexible entry requirements, smaller class sizes, and are designed to support different learning styles and life commitments. Local college’s information.

Need advice? The Hallam Students’ Union Advice Centre is here for you! If you’re studying a SHU course, you can access free, confidential support on a range of issues.
What does the Students’ Union Advice Centre help with?
- Academic: Academic Misconduct, Complaints, Appeals, Fitness to Practise, Disciplinary, Withdrawals
- Finance: Student Finance England, Financial Hardship, Healthcare Funding
- Housing: Tenancy agreements, Disrepair issues, Landlord problems, Deposits

Student Voice
We’ve teamed up with Hallam Students’ Union to ensure that students studying SHU courses at Partner Colleges have an independent voice. Ryan Woodwards is our Partner Student Lead Rep and can be contacted by email at r.woodwards@shu.ac.uk.

Money Skills

Team Hallam & BUCS
Team Hallam is our home of club and performance sport. We have 40 student-run sports clubs and enter over 65 teams into the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) league programme.

Inspirational Student Awards 2025
The 2025 UK Partner Inspirational Student Awards (ISAs) celebrated outstanding student contributions across our UK partner institutions. This year, the awards aligned with newly formed categories including awards for Inspirational Individual, Inclusivity and Diversity, and Leadership.
We were delighted to receive a record number of submissions this year and following a shortlisting panel, 10 students winners were selected from across 7 of our UK partner institutions.

The Inspirational Student Awards recognise our amazing students studying a SHU award at our UK partners, who have made a real difference to their fellow students, staff, local community, and beyond. The awards celebrate those who have overcome adversity, inspired us, and made a real difference whilst being a student.
